Bank deal to boost Chinese tourism: NSW Govt

The New South Wales Government says a deal with a Chinese bank could encourage more Chinese tourists to visit the state.

Credit card transactions with China Unionpay will be available across the state under the agreement, signed by Premier Morris Iemma on a trip to China.

Tourism Minister Matt Brown says it will make banking faster and more convenient for tourists from China, and should significantly boost tourist numbers.

"What's really important is we're going to be seeing a massive increase in Chinese visitors over here over the next few years," he said.

"In fact, Chinese visitors are going to increase by 60 per cent over the next four years."

Mr Brown says it will also help the state's economy.

"What this really means is that Chinese travellers now coming to Sydney have greater access to funds that are back home," he said.
